What kind of legal need do you have? Our Goldilocks Approach.

NOT EVERY PROBLEM OR OPPORTUNITY REQUIRES THE SAME APPROACH.

WE WANT TO FIND LEGAL SERVICES "JUST RIGHT" FOR YOUR NEEDS. Running a small organization means balancing competing priorities for money, time and energy.  Commonplace Law exists to help you succeed in your positive vision and impact.  We don't want you spend your resources with us unless it will be effective for your vision and priorities.

Our first step for any legal service is to identify the problem or opportunity you are addressing and which legal services best serve your current need, given your current priorities and resources.

WHAT TYPE OF NEED DO YOU HAVE?

Sure, we'd all love to have a personal chef/nutritionist preparing our every meal, but that is time-consuming and expensive.  Commonplace Law will help you identify when you need a four-course meal; and when a just-add-water packet of instant oatmeal is good enough.

Follow the recipe.

Known problems, known solutions, with predictable results. Think tic-tac-toe.  There are best practices and a "right" answer" for most problems.  You can "just-add-water" and one size fits most.

Examples: forming a legal entity, conflict of interest policies, commercial lease, donor acknowledgments, basic loan notes.

Develop your own recipe.

Known problems, known solutions, with predictable rules; but the variables and rules are more intricate.  Think chess game. There isn't one best practice, but an expert can help navigate "good" practices.

Examples: operating agreements, employee handbooks, partnership agreements, financing structures.

Bring your recipe book, but...

Problems and solutions are not fixed or predictable because the variables change based on what you do. You have to learn and adapt as you go.  Experts can help brainstorm, but don't expect "right answers."

Examples:  managing employees. workplace culture, board-employee relationships, aligning workflow and mission.
